Some of Australia’s leading geo-enabled enterprises have confirmed they will be presenting at Esri Australia’s road show technical seminars, Technology Directions.
WHEN: 2012-03-15 to 2012-03-15
WHERE: Melbourne
STATE: VIC

Western Power, VicRoads, the Department of Fisheries and Hobart City Council are amongst the organisations that will be sharing their GIS experiences at Directions 2012: Esri Australia’s Tour de Force.
The seminars kick off in Darwin on 29 February before touring to Townsville, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and finally Hobart.
In addition to the user presentations, Directions 2012, a free event run exclusively for Esri software users, will comprise best practice presentations delivered by Esri Australia’s technical specialists and industry leaders.
Esri Australia technical consultant Josh Venman, who will be touring with Directions 2012, said the seminars have undergone some significant changes since they were last run in June 2011.
“Technology Directions has been running for more than a decade and while it’s always hugely popular with our users, we thought it had the potential to offer even more,” said Mr Venman.
“To keep pace with industry needs and curiosities, Directions 2012 has been reformatted to feature a new program style that builds on what our users told us they wanted to see.
“There will be more information on new technical releases; more tips and tricks; a greater focus on the business applications of GIS; and user presentations.
“We’ve organised feature presentations in each city – where users will share their GIS experience and shed some light on the challenges and successes they faced during a project’s lifecycle.”
In addition to user presentations, the seminars will feature sessions on the latest advancements in 3D technology, LiDAR and SAP integration.
The spotlight will also be thrown on ArcGIS Online, Esri’s cloud-based GIS that allows users to create and share intelligent maps.
“ArcGIS Online bridges the gap between simple online maps and sophisticated Geographic Information Systems, introducing intelligent web maps to the masses,” Mr Venman said.
