Big data analytics platform MapD now leverages the muscle of Google Cloud Platform with its availability within the Launcher container.

MapD 4.0 is now available on Google Cloud Launcher, the deployment service for the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

What this means for users of the cloud-based analytics platform is access to a fast open source SQL engine and visual analytics platform from within Google Cloud’s extensive cloud computing services suite, without the need for manual configuration required, according to MapD Technologies:

‘Google Cloud Launcher enables users to easily start up a familiar software package with Google Cloud services such as Compute Engine or Cloud Storage. It also allows users to scale their deployment instantly and at any time, without having to manually configure the software, virtual machine instances, storage, or network settings.’

For those unfamiliar, MapD is a GPU-enabled cloud processing suite, harnessing the parallelised-processing muscle of graphics processing cores to offer rendering of billions of points and millions of shapes in real time over a standard internet connection.

Marcin Kurc, Head of Cloud Commerce at Google Cloud, welcomed MapD’s entry to the fold.

“At Google Cloud we strive to make it as easy as possible for customers to deploy, purchase and manage leading solutions in the cloud,” he said.

“With availability on Google Cloud Launcher, MapD is bringing its extreme analytics service capability to Google Cloud Platform, simplifying procurement processes and allowing customers to focus on building a successful business.”

MapD 4.0 is available in three licensed versions, Open Source Core, Community Edition, and Enterprise Edition.
