SSSi has announced two events concerning remote sensing & Earth observation, and point clouds, respectively.

Remote Sensing and Earth Observation Fields Twilight Seminar

Wednesday, 14 August 2013, 5:30-9:00pm

Location: The York Conference and Function Centre, Level 2, 99 York Street, Sydney

Contact: Kelly Rischmiller, reo.nsw@sssi.org.au

Overview

This seminar, which is proudly sponsored by Intergraph, will bring together people who are working in the remote sensing and earth observation fields to hear how some professionals in Australia are using earth observation data for their applications, as well as some of the latest developments in processing of earth observation data.

Presentations will be made on a range of topics on the processing and derivation of information from earth observation data derived from satellite and aircraft. Time will be available for discussions and networking.

Who should attend?

Professionals using earth observation data in their employment who wish to learn more about potential applications of earth observation data, and students who are studying remote sensing or using earth observation data for their research work.

Webinar – 3D Spatial Data from Photogrammetric Point Clouds

Wednesday, 31 July 2013, 1:00-2:00pm

Location: Webinar, Online

Contact: Kelly Rischmiller, reo.nsw@sssi.org.au

Overview

This webinar presentation will showcase the potential for a range of new high-resolution 3D spatial products sourced from existing 50cm resolution digital photogrammetry captured by NSW Land and Property Information (LPI).

The software used to process this imagery (Leica XPro) employs a Semi-Global Matching (SGM) technique to extract point cloud data in LAS format at a resolution of one point per pixel. This is equivalent to the first return of a LiDAR sensor with the addition of RGB & CIR colour attributes from the imagery. Initial testing shows that the vertical accuracy of the data is sub-metre which fills the void between data sourced from LiDAR and SAR techniques.

Given that LPI has already produced in excess of 160 1:100,000 map sheets across two thirds of NSW, the potential exists to provide high-resolution 3D data across vast extents of the State. Derived products may include classified LAS files, a bare-earth DEM (2-5m resolution), hydrology & catchment definitions and feature extraction.

Presenter

Glenn Jones | Manager Cadastral, Topographic & Location Programs, Land and Property Information Division I Department of Finance & Services

Glenn Jones currently manages the Cadastral, Topographic & Location programs at NSW Land & Property Information (LPI). He has 38 years experience in the practical application of geodesy, GNSS positioning and the development of elevation data derived from airborne sensors. Glenn was responsible for establishment of LPI’s own LiDAR capability.

PLEASE NOTE

This webinar is available to all across Australia & NZ. Times for your State and Territory are:

  • 1 to 2pm AEDT (NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS, QLD)
  • 12:30 to 1:30pm ACST (SA, NT)
  • 11 to 12pm AWST (WA)
  • 3 to 4pm NZST (NZ)
