Geospatial solutions provider Pitney Bowes has announced ambitious plans to revolutionise spatial analysis by shortcutting the data management process through a new strategy known as Geoenrichment.
As part of Pitney Bowes’ suite of Spectrum location intelligence solutions, Geoenrichment represents a shortcut to authoritative location data analytics. Using Geoenrichment, authoritative datasets will be integrated into Pitney Bowes’ software solutions to streamline and empower spatial analysis by eliminating the costly practice of data sourcing, data cleaning and data preparation.
Spatial Source spoke with the managing director for geospatial industry solutions at Pitney Bowes, Joe Francica, to discuss the far-reaching implications of the release and the “true uplift” that the release will provide to its existing products such as MapInfo Pro.
“What we are trying to do is shortcut the time period between starting a project and getting into location analytics,” Francica said. “Currently people will spend near to 75% of our time on data preparation and very little on location analytics.”
“You can’t have geoanalytics without going through a Geoenrichment process.”
“Once we’ve got the data in a map-able format, then we can go into our location analytics solutions. It’s immediately mappable, and immediately able to be analysed.”
Within the next 12 months, some 148 different categories of rich composition will be made available through Geoenrichment. There are reported to be around 20 different specific attribute datasets, including for applications such as risk analysis, fire management and logistics.
For professionals in Australia, this means stronger integration with datasets including PSMA’s Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF), as well as a host of other authoritative datasets.
An early adopter of the new technology is international logistical service provider WiseTech Global, whose CargoWise One operating system services the world’s largest logistics companies to manage the movement of goods and information across the supply chain. WiseTech Global will utilise Spectrum Technology within its CargoWise One platform globally to assist its users with address validation and geocoding to enhance their delivery accuracy rates, improve cross-border compliance and increase productivity.

Francica also indicated that Pitney Bowes will be releasing MapInfo Pro Advanced as part of the release, which is capable of multi-resolution raster processing – capable of a previously unattainable 98% lossless compression. MapInfo Pro Advanced is currently available.
