Google Maps Mania has points readers to a sort of ‘map wizard’ that allows users to experiment with the colours on a ‘flat’ UI style Google Maps, and then export a JSON file to import into a mapping project. A great way to make your Google Map project stand out from the crowd.

For all the cyclists in the audience, Google Maps Mania also highlights a Bike Blackspot application for iPhone users, which allows cyclists to report areas that are dangerous for riders.

All Things Spatial has an interesting critique of the Sydney Morning Herald’s federal election map, calling it “a big fail for SMH data journalism”, thanks to its use of current electoral boundaries with information of old sitting members, including those whom aren’t contesting their seats.
