On 28 October 2013, Landgate, Western Australia’s primary source of land information and geographic data, launched ‘Locate’ – the first of its public-facing applications based on Google Maps Engine.

Locate is a new way to view WA’s location based information. You can view a wealth of information either as a 2D map in your browser or 3D utilising Google Earth. It was developed as part of the WA Location Information Strategy, in conjunction with NGIS and Google.

More than just a map of WA, users can overlay Landgate’s aerial photography and property information, as well as many other layers including roads, public transport routes, historical maps, census data, schools, and health facilities – with more being added over the coming months.

Locate Data Layers are sourced from several authoritative Government Agencies, and include:

  • Landgate
  • Australian Bureau of Statistics
  • Planning WA
  • Department of Mines and Petroleum
  • Main Roads WA
  • Public Transport Authority
  • Office of Electoral Commissioners
  • Water Corporation

You can find out more about the data and its sources by clicking here.
