Students from Sydney schools had a fun day engaging in hands-on activities and learning about surveying careers.

On 12 May, Surveying Careers hosted its 2026 Sydney Surveying Unleashed event at the Strathfield Golf Club.
The event saw 60 students from 13 different schools come along for an exciting and engaging day focused on hands-on learning, career exploration and industry connection.
The day was designed to introduce the students to the diverse opportunities available within the surveying and spatial profession while giving them practical insight into the skills and technology used by professionals every day.
The students participated in a range of interactive activities that enabled them to experience surveying firsthand. They explored a variety of equipment, such as total stations, GPS units, laser scanners and drones, gaining exposure to the tools and techniques used across the profession.

Indoor sessions provided an opportunity for students to hear from experienced surveyors and discover the many pathways available within surveying and geospatial careers.
A highlight of the day was the opportunity to connect directly with industry professionals. Through networking sessions and informal conversations, the students were able to ask questions, learn about real-world projects, and gain valuable advice about future study and career options.
The enthusiasm and engagement shown throughout the day was extremely encouraging, with many students expressing strong interest in undertaking future work experience opportunities within the surveying industry.

The event would not have been a success without the support of the many volunteers and sponsors who generously contributed their time, resources and expertise. A sincere thank you goes to AusSearch, Beveridge Williams, CMS Surveyors, ISNSW Cumberland Regional Group, LTS Surveyors, and SDG for their ongoing support and commitment to promoting the surveying profession to the next generation.
A special mention must also go to our premium sponsor, She Maps, who generously supplied the event’s grand prize: a classroom microdrone kit awarded to Girraween High School. This fantastic prize will enable students and teachers to further incorporate surveying, drone technology, and spatial learning activities into the classroom, helping inspire continued curiosity and engagement in the industry well beyond the event itself.
Surveying Careers looks forward to continuing to host events throughout the year to help inspire the next generation of surveyors and spatial professionals.
