Brisbane startup GIS People has placed sixth in CRN’s annual Fast50 awards, recognising the fastest-growing IT companies nationwide.

CRN’s ninth Fast50 awards event was held at the Westin Sydney on November 30, with another Brisbane company, RIoT solutions, taking first place. The Fast50 recipients are chosen based on data — places are given based on year-on-year growth, rather than an arbitrary adjudication panel.

Claiming sixth place was GIS People, a Queensland-based spatial startup with two core products: Gruntify, a field data collection and management platform, and Open Declare, a web platform for tracking election expense disclosures in real time.

GIS People founder and CEO Igor Stjepanovic appeared to be elated with the result.

“To be listed on the CRN Fast50 is a huge privilege for any IT company in Australia, big or small,” he said.

“But to come up in the top 10 is obviously an amazing achievement. The last financial year was a stellar year for our business, and a lot of our success is due to our strong partnership with Microsoft. However, this financial year promises to be even bigger, and we look forward to entering the CRN Fast50 again in 2018.”

CRN Editorial Director Steven Kiernan said the 2017 results were impressive, with an average growth rate of 85.9 percent across entrants.

“Every year the CRN Fast50 gets more competitive. This is the ninth year of the awards since we launched the program back in 2009, and it was the fastest year yet. It was an incredible achievement by all of the companies that secured a place in the 2017 CRN Fast50,” he said.
