One unique feature of the GeoNext conference is the StartUp Showcase, where location-based startups are given an opportunity to pitch their idea to a panel of judges from some of Australia’s biggest venture capital, as well as a host of interested potential users and partners in the audience.

Last year’s event saw three startups – GeoLocartaStreetHawk, and buildAR.com – compete for the favour of both the judges and the audience.

Of the three finalists, the judges selected buildAR.com as the winner, with the company receiving $1,000 of Australian cloud hosting from ninefold. Additionally, the audience also picked builAR.com as their favourite, so they also walked away with a $50 Amazon voucher and a copy of James Moody and Bianca Nogrady’s book The Sixth Wave.

This year, the panel comprises:

The competing startups will be announced on the day, but some very exciting ideas and concepts will be shown.

This year’s prizes include cloud hosting on Ninefold up to the value of $2,500, and a two-hour strategy session on capital raising with Jack Lowenstein and John Starr.
