The Garada Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Workshop will be held at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) on Wednesday 7 December 2011. The Garada project aims to design low cost and light-weight SAR spacecraft that can image the earth at day and night and in any weather. These will meet requirements for flood monitoring in Australia and have application to forest monitoring for carbon accounting, border protection and surveillance, oil spill detection, agricultural monitoring and ocean surface current mapping.

The SAR Workshop will also provide an opportunity for discussion between SAR experts, technology providers and end users.
 
When: Wednesday 7 December 2011, 8am to 5.30pm
Where: University of New South Wales, Kensington, Sydney
Cost: Attendance is free including buffet lunch and refreshments provided by BAE Systems
 
The workshop is aimed at the following participants:
 
SAR subject matter experts
SAR / Earth Observation end users encompassing government, research and industry sectors
Garada SAR Formation Flying project consortium members
Other personnel including research students

The Garada SAR Formation Flying project is a collaborative space engineering research project aimed at developing a national capability in space-borne earth observation using GPS Formation-Flying SAR satellites. The project is funded under the Australian Space Research Program and is led by the Australian Centre for Space Engineering Research (ACSER) at UNSW, with other consortium partners comprising BAE Systems Australia, Curtin University of Technology, Delft University, EADS Astrium and General Dynamics Corporation. ACSER aims to be instrumental in the Federal Government's push to increase Australia's capabilities in the space industry.
