Photogrammetry software company Pix4D has launched its first-ever climate contest, inviting people from around the world to show how drones can be used to fight the climate crisis.
The company is offering up a $3,000USD cash prize and access to Pix4D software to the project that best demonstrates the use of mapping to investigate or mitigate the the threats to the climate.
In making the announcement, Pix4D noted several projects around the world where its software is being used to investigate the impacts of climate change, including tracking melting glaciers in rural Kyrgyzstan, counting the cost of storm-damaged crops in Puerto Rico, or mapping chimpanzee nests in Tanzania.
The Pix4D Climate Contest is now open and is accepting entries until December 13, 2019. Organisers say winners will be announced by email in January 2020.
The judging panel includes Pix4D GIS-experts, environmental activists and a representative from Swiss Youth for Climate.
As well as a cash prize and access to Pix4D software, winners will receive personalized technical support and have their projects featured on the company’s website.
