Celebrating strength and diversity in our industry

By on 22 July, 2020

Significant strides are being made towards developing a culture of inclusion in the geospatial industry.

It’s a fact that the surveying and spatial science professions have not traditionally been a mosaic of demographics and perspectives. Unfortunately, homogeneity of viewpoints wreaks significant, measurable damage on leadership and decision-making processes.

But a coalition of industry leaders that recognise the extent of the issue has been hard at work developing initiatives and strategies designed to tackle this issue for the betterment and preservation of the geospatial industry into the future — and their efforts are bearing fruit.

Just a year on from the creation of the Spatial Sector Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, the co-convenors of the Spatial and Surveying Diversity Leadership Network have compiled a series of success stories. These are accounts of organisations who have dug in and invested in the future by undertaking the hard work of challenging bias, and developing workplace cultures that foster belonging and inclusion.

The results speak for themselves. View the case studies and glean a sense of the future of our industry.

These efforts were also showcased in issue 108 of Position magazine. Subscribe to Position to stay ahead of the curve with the latest industry trends, news and analysis.
