Beca has announced the acquisition of CQG Consulting, a Queensland-based environmental and planning consultancy.

Established in 2003, CQG is headquartered in Rockhampton and has offices in Gladstone, Mackay, Townsville and Brisbane.

The addition of CQG’s team of more than 45 specialists has increased Beca’s Australian workforce to over 1,000 people.

CQG offers a range of capabilities in GIS, environmental science, ecology and planning.

In the GIS field, the company is involved in:

  • GIS mapping and cartography
  • Spatial and network analysis
  • UAV and LiDAR-based surveying
  • Bathymetric surveys using USV platforms
  • High-resolution aerial imagery and terrain modelling

CQG is a natural fit for Beca

Beca was founded in New Zealand more than 100 years ago, and today is an employee-owned company with more than 4,000 staff in 24 offices across the Asia Pacific.

Andrew Mailer, Beca’s Managing Director for Australia, said regional Queensland is a deliberate choice for the company’s growth agenda in Australia, with its prevalence of major industries and significant water, defence, energy and infrastructure opportunities in the pipeline.

“It brings talented Queenslanders into our business and allows us to offer greater diversity of expertise to CQG’s strong client base across regional Queensland,” said Mailer.

“The connection of Beca’s broad engineering and advisory capabilities in infrastructure, energy, industrial, defence and water, with the expertise and deep relationships that CQG’s people value, will increase our impact on communities in regional Queensland.

Patrice Brown, Founder of CQG, said joining Beca begins an important next chapter for CQG.

“We have been approached by several interested buyers over the last decade.  Beca stood out as the best alignment for CQG’s staff and our clients, with values that resonate with the business we have built and fostered over the last 23 years,” said Brown.

“We have built our business on trusted relationships, outcome focused advisory and a deep understanding of the needs of our clients, First Nation groups and communities throughout regional Queensland.”
