Free GITA networking event

GITA is holding a free industry networking event in Brisbane on the 20th of June, under the theme ‘GIS for Risk Management.’

Speakers confirmed for the event include:

Andy Wohlsperger, GIS Project Manager AECOM.
Andy has received a Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Techniques and Remote Sensing from the University of Texas and a Masters of Science in Geographic Information Systems from Salzburg University in Austria.  Based in Brisbane, he has been with AECOM for over 11 years and has managed GIS projects and efforts in various regions including North America, the Middle East and Australia.
Andy will present on the use of geospatial technologies and processes to help better communicate flood risk and drive mitigation actions as a decision support tool for critical infrastructure protection. Mining critical information from the vast available datasets of flood modelling helps present creative datasets and 3D visualisations to convey highly technical information in an easily understandable format.

And;

Martin J Browne, manager, Information Management at Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
Martin Browne is an IT management professional with over 25 years of experience in developing and managing information technology for private and public sector organisations. The last 12 years have been heavily focussed on the use of mobile devices, maps and spatial analysis.
Martin will present on Disaster Management mapping capabilities and the work Council has done on evacuation mapping for flood events.The Sunshine Coast Council is Australia’s fourth largest local authority and Martin is responsible for managing the council’s vast spatial and asset data, information and systems. He is also the Planning Cell Manager in council’s Local Disaster Coordination Centre. With these dual responsibilities Martin is working with council officers and Queensland state agencies to be better prepared for disasters and to improve the workflow and effectiveness of the disaster response efforts.

 

The event will be held on Thursday 20 June, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, at the AECOM offices at:

North Tower, HQ – Level 8, 540 Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley, QLD 4006.

Drinks and Canapes will be provided during the networking session after presentations.

Although this is a free event, please register such that the right level of catering can be determined.
