Surveying is a frequently underestimated career pathway that is nonetheless critical to the future of the nation.

It is an in-demand, well-paid and extremely rewarding profession, underpinning everything from the creation of new suburbs to major infrastructure projects. Yet many have no idea it exists.

Surveying Careers aims to change this.

Surveying Careers collaborates with key industry stakeholders to raise the profile of surveying, build awareness of the profession and highlight the pathways available.

We had an exciting year in 2025, working closely with schools and industry partners to champion this dynamic profession and broaden awareness in the community.

With new partnerships forming and more engagement planned, we know 2026 will be filled with fresh opportunities to inspire the next generation of surveyors.

Surveying Careers plans to continue key programs that introduce students to surveying, including:

  • Surveying Unleashed events, which offer immersive, interactive days where high school students experience surveying tools, technologies such as drones and total stations, and career discussions with professionals.
  • Our latest initiative, Drones, Data and Directions, has piqued high interest among the NSW Government’s Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP) project team. It is a two-day program that highlights emerging technology in the profession, including drones, total stations and GPS, with multiple events confirmed across the state.
  • Maths in Surveying will continue to show real-world applications of mathematics through hands-on exercises, helping link classroom learning with career pathways.
  • Surveying Careers will again support and help deliver the Let’s Locate geospatial STEM program, a four-day school holiday program that develops practical surveying and mapping skills, with industry and education partners.

Across 2026, Surveying Careers will maintain a strong presence at career expos, offering study pathway information and connection opportunities for students, teachers, career advisors and families.

We will also continue to facilitate work experience placements, enabling students to gain firsthand insight into surveying roles and build industry connections that support future career decisions.

Surveying Careers has an abundance of resources and materials available for students, teachers, parents and surveyors.

If you would like to be involved in any of our events, work experience program, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Surveying Careers at nsw@surveyingcareers.com.au or check out our website for more information.
