Got solutions? Maxar Spatial Challenge open for entries

By on 29 July, 2020

A new competition has kicked off this week, with a call out for industry professionals to put their geospatial and technology skills to work to address key challenges in Australia.

The Maxar Spatial Challenge, jointly organised by Maxar, Arlula and Consilium Technology, is now accepting submissions from individuals and organisations interested in using space derived intelligence to leverage and solve unique challenges in Australia.

The deadline for registration is 12:00 pm EST, August 21st, 2020.

Organisers say the competition is aimed at promoting the value of space derived intelligence in addressing key challenges identified by stakeholders within Australia, identifying and supporting key innovators within Australia that can leverage space intelligence and address key challenges, and developing sustainable solutions that can be scaled and applied on a regional or national level.

While all participating teams are welcome to use their preferred GIS platform for this challenge, Maxar has offered to provide access to its own platforms and high-resolution imagery for use in the challenge.

Interested individuals and teams can register at the competition’s website, where they can also find some challenges suggested by the competition organisers, or pitch their own challenge during registration.

The competition includes both “urban” and “regional” categories, with the winners of each taking home a cash prize of AUD $5,000. Second place in each category gets you AUD $3,000, and third place AUD $1,000, while satellite data, subscriptions, internships and funding for travel for winners to present their solutions on the big stage are also on offer.

Prize presentation will be held at Locate 2021, which is scheduled to take place 30th March to 1st April in Brisbane.

Position magazine and SpatialSource.com.au are among the media sponsors for the Challenge.
