EO Forum

On Tuesday 28 August, as part the Congress, ISPRS hosted a one day Earth Observation Forum to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the International Symposia on Remote Sensing of Environment.

There are a number of fora that bring together different sectors of the space industry, including GEO, CEOS, GGIM and meetings organised by different Societies and companies. ISPRS is particularly interested in bringing together space agencies and commercial satellite operators, together with non commercial users, such as environment agencies and academic researchers, to discuss issues such as funding environmental missions, providing socio economic benefits and legal constraints.

The objectives of forum were to:
  • Review the current status of international coordination of Earth Observation;
  • Explore constraints on collaboration;
  • Discuss legal issues concerning space law and EO satellite data
  • Formulate a list of requirements for future collaboration.

A summary of the discussions and a report will be prepared and made available in the future.

The forum was followed by a small social function to celebrate the event and encourage further informal discussion.
