Best of the Blogs 4 May 2016

Each week Spatial Source highlights some of the best that the internet has to offer.

bob-drone race

Last week was a momentum occasion as the first ‘brain-drone race’ was held, as shown by Quartz. Yes, not only can you control a drone using your brain, but you can even race them (and presumably battle them too).

bob-shipmap

Geoawesomeness shared the amazingly mesmerising but unfortunately named Shipmap, a visualisation of every shipping vessel the world and the fourteen million shipping containers circling the globe at any given moment.

bob-tomnod-pools

If you’re at all skeptical about how close machine learning is to changing our world, have a look at the Tomnod’s blog post that shows who wins when both humans and machine attempt to map all of Adelaide’s swimming pools– the winner… both, sort of.

bob-got-map

If you are as excited by Game of Thrones S06 as me and everybody else, you may be interested to know that the map of Westeros is actually based on the shape of England and Ireland turned upside down (and many other GoT maps as compiled by Heavy).

bob-brain-gps-gnss-dependant

How GPS dependent are you? Geoawesomeness put together a quiz to help you find out just how dependent you are on satellite navigation. Surprisingly, I wasn’t dependent at all.
