You’ve no doubt heard the devastating effect that Saturday’s Earthquake had on Nepal. Well the impact continues and you can help out in two ways, as identified by Gizmodo. To see some of the destruction from above (as we map types like to do), check out Wired’s piece on using inSAR to map the displacement, and Dronelife’s update on the use of UAV in the recovery.

To recognise Earth Day last Wednesday, the ESRI Insider blog posted five striking story maps showing human’s significant impacts on Earth over time.

It’s not all doom and gloom though: Dronelife has posted a compilation of drone wipeouts to make you smile (and pity the fools who fly drones into themselves).

This week also marked an important milestone, 20 years of GPS.  To celebrate, GPS World published a timeline of the technology since 1995. If you can’t imagine the world before satellite navigation, check out ABC’s video from way back in 1992, GPS- the next big thing. We’ve come a long, long way.

Maps Mania have posted a collection of Google Maps pranks, including the new park in India that shows Android Pisses all Over Apple (their words, note mine).

If you don’t believe that, and want to pimp out your iPhone, Geoawsomeness has posted an interactive “How to” article showing you how to give you location-based alerts.

Still feeling practical? Well, the thematic mapping blog has shown how you can use real-time GPS to track your travels, even if you spend them cross-country skiing for 25 days straight.

Finally, you must treat your eyes to the work of artist Federico Winer, who shared his collection of beautifully altered satellite imagery with Gizmodo.
