2024 SA geospatial awards recipients announced

Some of the happy recipients of the South Australia 2024 Geospatial Excellence Awards.

The recipients of the Geospatial Council of Australia’s (GCA) 2024 Geospatial Excellence Award Winners for South Australia have been announced.

The awards were presented during the gala dinner following the conclusion of the GCA’s Spatial Information Day conference on Friday, 16 August in Adelaide.

The award categories and recipients are as follows:

  • Environment & Sustainability Award: Green Adelaide and Department for Environment and Water, in partnership with other state government agencies and 18 councils across Adelaide, for the Urban Heat and Tree Canopy Mapping Project.
  • Community Impact Award: The City of Adelaide for City Plan 2036
  • Innovation Award (Medium to Large Businesses): Department of Treasury & Finance, Office for Data Analytics, SA State Emergency Services, South Australian Country Fire Service, South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service, South Australia Police, SA Ambulance Service, Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Government of South Australia, South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM), SA Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, SA Department of Infrastructure and Transport, SA Attorney Generals Department, Department for Education, South Australia, and SA Department for Health and Wellbeing, for The Situational Awareness for Emergencies Data Platform.
  • Technical Excellence Award: Office of the Surveyor-General – SA, Department for Housing & Urban Development – Planning & Land Use Services, for PlanSA.
  • Workforce Development and Inclusion Award: The Surveyors Board of South Australia for SurveyingSA.
  • Diversity and Inclusion Award: Felicity Dennis
  • Undergraduate Student Award: Natarsha McPherson
  • Future Leader of the Year Award: Claire Fisk
  • Professional of the Year Award: Joe D’Aloia
  • Educational Development Award: Scott Allen

All recipients are eligible for the prestigious Oceanic awards competition, the recipients of which will be announced during the Locate Conference in Brisbane from 6 to 10 April 2025.

The next state-based awards event will be the NSW Geospatial Excellence Awards Dinner, which will take place this Friday, 23 August. It’s not too late to register.
