Elizabeth Abbey, editor, Spatial Source and Position magazine.

Dear Readers,

I am pleased to introduce myself as the new editor of Position magazine and Spatial Source.

I am a geologist with experience in GIS, cartography, spatial analysis, data management and all things related to Earth and Environmental Science. I originally hail from Seattle, Washington, and completed my undergraduate studies at Wellesley College near Boston. I later went on to do a doctorate at the University of Sydney studying the ancient Great Barrier Reef. I have worked as a GIS database technician in the mining industry, taught ArcGIS to undergraduates, and more recently worked as a petroleum geologist.

I have published articles in a number of academic journals and am excited to try my hand at more journalistic pursuits.

I am replacing Anthony Wallace who after 2 ½ years as editor has decided to join the world of PR and is currently travelling overseas. I will be attending the forthcoming Ozri conference in Sydney later this month.

Position Magazine and Spatial Source are Gold Sustaining Partners of the Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI). With ever-increasing online exposure, has in recent years established itself as the source of geo spatial industry news in the region and now competes internationally. The free weekly newsletter allows professionals in the field to better make sense of a rapidly evolving industry landscape. Redesigned in 2016, the Spatial Source website provides readers even more industry news and commentary, and features rich video, animation, and web maps.

Spatial Source is accompanied by its widely regarded print counterpart Position magazine. Published six times a year, Position has been informing and educating readers for over 25 years. Position is now available in both print and digital, widening its reach and offering readers the convenience of multiple platforms.

Together the two publications are the keys to access the surveying and spatial sectors.
