Trimble has acquired Cityworks, creator of enterprise asset management software aimed at utilities and local government.

The acquisition of Azteca Systems LLC (Cityworks) was announced late last week and is expected to close by the end of the year.

Founded in 1996, Cityworks’ core product is a GIS suite aimed at managing, maintaining and upgrading ageing transport, utility and public assets infrastructure.

These days, it comprises enterprise, cloud and mobile components, and is used by over 700 utilities and local governments, according to Trimble.

“Cityworks is a pioneer in developing software to address the global challenges associated with managing aging, critical infrastructure,” said Steve Berglund, president and CEO of Trimble.

“Trimble has a long history of transforming industries by combining technologies and providing full solutions that help customers measure, assess, design and construct infrastructure at scale. With Cityworks, we now expand our solutions portfolio enabling customers to manage and optimize the performance of their assets across the entire infrastructure lifecycle.”

The Cityworks business will be reported as part of Trimble’s Resources and Utilities segment, and the firm indicated plans to offer expanded product portfolios to both existing customer bases.
