Leica Geosystems (part of Hexagon) and C.R. Kennedy are giving one lucky Australian surveying student the opportunity to undertake an internship at Leica Geosystems head office in Heerbrugg, Switzerland.

The successful applicant will work within Leica Geosystems’ product development team, undertaking a range of tasks related to surveying technology such as product testing of hardware and software, workflow documentation and data analysis.

The scholarship is open to any current second- or third-year geospatial or surveying student undertaking an Australian university or TAFE course. Applicants must be an Australian, New Zealand or EU citizen currently living in Australia, and must be committed to a career in the surveying and geospatial field and open to learning and enthusiastically participating in the Leica Geosystems organisation.

The successful applicant will have their travel to and from Heerbrugg covered, as well as any work visa expenses, as well as a salary commensurate with covering all reasonable living expenses for the term of the scholarship.

The internship will commence no later than 1 December 2024 and end on 21 February 2025 at the earliest. There will be an option to extend the internship up to a maximum of six months.

Full terms and conditions, and information on how to apply, can be found here. The deadline for applications is 14 July.

Last year’s scholarship recipient was Lucy Illek, a student at the University of Newcastle, whose internship was so successful that she was asked to extend her stay from six months to one year, as explained in the following video.
