The Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute has announced a new president, Paul Digney, along with the appointment of a new board.

The SSSI has welcomed Paul Digney as its incoming president: ‘a proud Tasmanian, with over 25 years’ experience in the surveying and spatial profession.’

Mr. Digney has held active roles within the SSSI and its legacy entities for over two decades.

“It is a great honour to be appointed to this prestigious role,” he said.

“First I must acknowledge the years of dedicated service from SSSI’s outgoing President Dr Zaffar Sadiq Mohamed-Ghouse. His passion for the industry is infinite and he has worked tirelessly over the past two years to ensure SSSI has a long and sustainable future.”

Mr. Digney also thanked retiring national directors Lee Hellen (Queensland), Rob Sarib (Northern Territory) and Richard Syme (Victoria) for their service to the SSSI and its members.

New national directors have been appointed to the SSSI board: Andrej Mocicka (Victoria), Dale Atkinson (Queensland), Inga Playle (Tasmania) and Nicholas Brown (Australian Capital Territory).

“New directors bring new energy, ideas and enthusiasm to the board. Collectively they have many years’ experience which will benefit SSSI significantly as we move forward,” said Mr. Digney.

A special meeting of the new SSSI Board has been convened and Dr. Lesley Arnold (Western Australia) has been appointed the President-elect. Outgoing President Dr. Zaffar Sadiq Mohamed-Ghouse was also appointed Company Secretary.

“With our strong CEO, Tony Wheeler at the helm, our new board, our talented staff and dedicated team of volunteers, SSSI has positioned itself to be a clear leader, skilfully representing the surveying and spatial community into the future,” said Mr. Digney.
