It’s a short Snippets this week; we’ll begin with a few more geospatial job vacancies.

The Moreton Bay Regional Council is seeking a Senior Surveyor on a permanent basis, to undertake cadastral survey activities for the planning, design and construction of council’s infrastructure. In addition to employing standard surveying techniques and equipment, the role will involve the use of software such as 12D, AutoCad and SurvaCad.

NSW Fire & Rescue is seeking a GIS Support Developer on a temporary full time basis (up to 30 June 2026 with the possibility of extension) to support the geospatial data components of the Emergency Services Computer Aided Dispatch (ESCAD) and related systems.

Landgate in Western Australia is seeking someone to join their Senior Spatial Officer Pool – Names & Addressing. The permanent role will involve assessing new naming requests for roads and topographical features, and maintaining the street addressing database for the state, amongst other things.

In Victoria, a review of land registry fees has resulted in proposed new fee levels to take effect from 1 July 2026. This would apply to lodgement of property transactions, plans of subdivision and searching the Register of land. Feedback is being sought, which can submitted via Engage Victoria.

AusSearch is running a competition for MapIT users, for which the prize is an Apple iPad Air. All you have to do to enter is to order any NSW Certificate of Title or NSW Plan Enquiry directly via the MapIT Platform from now until the beginning of February 2026. Each order will be recognised as unique entry into the draw. Any Title, Plan or other certificates orders in the main InfoTrack/AusSearch Platform do not qualify as an entry to the competition. Research company MarketsandMarkets has released research that says the global market for Earth observation small satellites is going to expand from $3.92 billion in 2025 to $8.19 billion by 2030, which will be a CAGR of 15.9%. The research shows that in 2025, the Asia Pacific region was 57% of the worldwide market. Mini-satellites are forecast to be the fastest growing sector by mass, with the defence segment to the be the fastest-growing by customer sector.

Overseas, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) is protesting the latest amendments to the Licensed Land Surveyors Act (LLSA) 1958, calling for a review of the legislation to better define the roles and responsibilities of engineers and land surveyors. The IEM says that the Act would allow surveyors to take on some roles that should remain the purview of engineers alone, such as “complex calculations for stability, structural integrity, and safety”.

NASA’s Prediction of Worldwide Energy Resources (POWER) project, which provides datasets from NASA in support of energy, buildings, and agroclimatology decisions, has come up with a new cloud-based tool that will help users assess data uncertainty for selected surface variables from POWER’s data catalogue. Called the PaRameter Uncertainty ViEwer (PRUVE), the no-coding tool simplifies the process for users across disciplines and skill levels.
