There are many competitions running at the moment and even more money up for grabs. If you have a great idea or the technical capacity to make geospatial applications, then there’s probably a gleaming opportunity waiting for you. Examine the below list and get started!
Hexagon IGNITE Smart M.APP Competition
Hexagon Geospatial is searching for the smartest developers on the globe to submit ideas for innovative Hexagon Smart M.App that aim to change the world. 1st Place will receive US$100,000; 2nd place, US$50,000; 3rd Place, US$25,000; and the remaining 17 finalists will each receive US$5,000. Entrants need not submit a working solution; only a developed idea for a smart mapping application that can be developed and commercialised using the competition funds and support from Hexagon. The winner will be decided be a public voting system. In support of the competition, there are a number of free workshops being help around the world, including Brisbane on 2 March 2016 and Melbourne on 11 April 2016.

NASA World Wind Europa Challenge
with a theme of ‘CitySmart’, the NASA World Wind Europa Challenge aims to ensure a future of smart and sustainable cities. The aim of the challenge is to inspire ideas for building great applications that serves the INSPIRE Directive and uses NASA’s open source virtual globe technology World Wind. Entrants need to build an application that serves some aspect of the OpenCitySmart design and uses WebWorldWind, and enter their coding and sumbit a supporting website.

DJI Developer Challenge
The United Nations, Ford and DJI are seeking to create a world in which vehicles and drones become more capable and efficient working together, and have announced a challenge to develop the software to make that possible, with US$100,000 up for grabs for the best solution. The ultimate goal is a surveying system for the United Nations Development Program to inspect emergency zones inaccessible to even the most versatile vehicles. The technology could allow United Nations first responders to earthquakes or tsunamis to quickly deploy DJI drones to survey and map areas – all from the cab of a Ford F-150. Eventually the technology would be used for applications for all relevant industries, including surveying, site investigation and precision agriculture.

Australian National Science Week – Citizen Science Prize
As part of Australian National Science Week, starting late next week, the Citizen Science Prize aims to empower the public to help in scientific research. To satisfy the requirements the project will need to be scalable, available online and everyday people should be able to contribute from their home on an ordinary computer. The chosen project will be built and produced by the ABC and promoted across their TV, radio and online channels. The last project, Galaxy Explorer, received the equivalent to a research assistant working for 13 years.
