Registrations are now open and the program released for the NSW/ACT Regional Spatial Conference 2016, presented by the Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI).
The conference and awards dinner dates will be held over two full days from Thursday 24 November to Friday 25 November 2016 at the Mecure Hotel, Braddon in Canberra.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Geo-Enabling our Community“, meaning that the newly released program focusses on how surveying and spatial science professionals use location based data and applications as key facilitators in their decision-making or customer support.
The program includes keynotes from Toby Bellwood of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet who will present “Putting Open Data on the (National)Map.” Another keynote will discuss one of Australia’s most ambitious spatial undertakings, when Peter Kinne of DigitalGlobe and Dan Paull of PSMA Australia present “A journey to Thinking Big Spatially with Big Data and PSMA Australia’s learnings in the development Geoscape.”
Other notable presentations include the international perspective in the presentation “Singapore: Smart City or Smart Nation?” by Daniel Kruimel and Brian Nicholls of AAM GROUP. Thomas Walter of the Australian Bureau of Statistics will also showcase the wider value of spatial information in his talk “Geostatistics – Adding value to statistics with geospatial data”.
There will also be an update from NSW land and property agency LPI following its partial privatisation and the appointment of the first female Surveyor General Narelle Underwood. In addition to discussions on education, local government, private industry, land titling, cadastral surveying, spatial analysis, GIS, 3D modelling and BIM, there will also be a dedicated session to “Open Spatial Presentation” and how this affects all the various divisions of the industry.
Early bird registrations for the two day conference recently opened, and include a Member’s rate of $460 for full conference plus awards dinner and networking drinks. The Non-Members rate is $710 and a Student/Graduate Member rate is $260. Full conference only registrations are also available, and start at $350 for Members. 2016 marks the fourth annual regional conference for NSW. With the combined conference in the nation’s capital, the NSW/ACT Regional Conference is set to be the biggest yet.
