Omnilink celebrates 25 years

Australian spatial data management company, Omnilink, is celebrating a landmark 25 years in business this month.

From a consortium of 4 survey companies from Sydney in 1987, which joined Austcon, to winning a place on the panel to capture the NSW cadastre, to establishing offices in Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Albury, and New Zealand, as well as achieving a multi-million dollar turnover, the last 25 years have been a rewarding experience, said founder and Executive Chairman, Ed Garvin.

The company has recognised expertise in: property and land information, the acquisition and management of geospatial data, application and database development, proprietary and bespoke geospatial systems, and the associated consultancy services and project management. “Being multi-vendor has helped our development and gives our clients confidence in independent advice”, said Managing Director David Bruce. “We have nurtured and developed more than 200 young geospatial professionals over this 25 year period, including undergraduate cadetships and postgraduate scholarships. This gives us a sense of pride and a place in the vibrant, leading Australian industry.”

“We have participated in some landmark projects including a major part in building arguably the largest geospatially enabled asset management system in Australia (NSW Department of Education Asset Management System), the Spatial Interoperability Demonstrator Project, building the first universal geospatial metadata extraction tool (OMNISCIENT) and initial development of Australian underground services mapping standards.

OMNILINK has recently won some large multi-year contracts. “Our immediate future looks very successful and lays the foundation for further growth for the next 25 years”, Ed added. “Our focus is on property and land data management. Data is the fuel that drives geospatial systems, and OMNILINK are a world leader in this fundamental area of the geospatial industry.”
