NICTA is calling developers who would like to be involved in an environmental hackfest – Envirohack – on 29 November from 9.00am (8.00am in Brisbane). The event will be held at NICTA labs in Canberra and Sydney, as well as The Edge in Brisbane.
Join other like-minded developers or environmental enthusiasts plus NICTA researchers and engineers, and gain access to some amazing, environmental geo-spatial datasets from the Bureau of Meteorology, Australian Bureau of Statistics, Department of the Environment, and GeoScience Australia.
Data sets include:
- Administrative Boundaries – Federal, State, Local, Post Codes
- Statistical Boundaries – Federal, State, Local
- Hydrography – rivers, streams, catchments
- Transport infrastructure – roads, trains, waterways, airports
- Utilities infrastructure – pipelines, powerlines
- Geocoding (name -> pos)
- Reverse Geocoding (pos -> name)
- Terrain Features – caves, pinnacles
- Climate Change – historical, simulations
- Species Data
- Elevation
- Vegetation
- Land Use
- Industry
- Parks
- Heritage
- Natural Resources
- Geospatial health information
- Imagery
The event is free and open to anyone, but will be of particular interest to those who would like to develop environment-related apps and services.
Prizes include shopping vouchers to the value of:
- First prize: $1000
- Second prize: $500 (must use Foundation Spatial Data Framework –FSDF, Admin Boundaries)
- Third prize: $200
- Other prizes: 3 x $100 and various other non-voucher prizes
Please note, to be eligible, a significant part of the project presented on the day must have been completed at one of the event’s official locations on the event day (it’s OK to come along with something that has been started beforehand). All entries must use one of the specifically provided data sets for the event. Judges discretion will be used to ensure that these criteria have been met.
