As a key software release for Esri Australia in 2012, Dekho 4.0 will be put under the spotlight at Ozri 2012, with a range of dedicated presentations, demonstrations, user groups and hands-on technical kiosks set up so attendees can learn more about the latest enhancements.
Developed locally by Esri Australia, Dekho 4.0 is the culmination of ongoing improvements to the software’s map interface, search capability and editing functions.
As a technology platform, Dekho seamlessly integrates with GIS software and other IT systems to combine data into one web-based mapping interface.
Dekho Product Manager Bryce Smith said Dekho 4.0 has a strong focus on usability and performance, making it easier for anyone – regardless of their technical abilities – to take advantage of GIS technology.
“Thousands of people use Dekho every day as a means of easily accessing the benefits of GIS technology – and a large number of these users are not technical experts,” said Mr Smith.
“With this in mind, the vision behind Dekho 4.0 was to make the technology even simpler to use and administer – while at the same time increasing its functionality and performance.
“To improve the user experience, Dekho has several key enhancements, including the introduction of a new panel-based user interface; new web editing functionality; and instantaneous search result capability.
Since first launching in 2007, Dekho has become a core technology system for many of Australasia’s leading commercial entities – such as LinkWater and Singapore Power – as well as state and local government organisations, including VicRoads and Woollongong City Council.
Wollongong City Council GIS Officer Matthew Starr said by bringing together information stored in multiple technology systems, Dekho allowed Council staff to respond more efficiently to resident information requests and maintenance issues.
“More than 600 Council staff members have access to Dekho, providing them with faster access to council information on core services, such as property, waste and development”, said Mr Starr.
“For example with Dekho, the planning department can generate searches on information for development assessment; our surveyors have seamless access to the city’s land parcel information; and our customer service team can quickly respond to resident enquiries with the most up-to-date information available.”
“This ‘self-service’ approach to data has transformed the way Council staff access key information – which has supported more accurate decision making and ultimately, better customer service.”
