Mobile satellite service goes live

A new service will allow businesses in Australia to access an improved level of mobile satellite communications.

Indigo’s Stargate service claims to provide secure access to Australia’s 'first point of presence', meaning the security, performance and reliability of information sent over mobile satellite phones will be improved.

Chief technology officer Yuval Hertzog said Indigo’s customers throughout Australia and the Asia Pacific will benefit.

“We expect industries such as mining, oil & gas, long-haul transport, defence and government services will particularly benefit,” he said.

The network will support faster transfer of high-bandwidth information such as video, critical data and interactive data from and to remote locations via mobile satellite phones, Hertzog added.

“In order to achieve our vision of being the communications provider of choice for those living, working or travelling in regional and remote areas, we believe it is a fundamental part of Indigo Telecom's value proposition that we provide our customers with dedicated access to next-generation network backbone infrastructure and services,” he said.
