Microsoft/Vexcel Imaging recently announced at the Intergeo conference in Hannover a new camera, the UltraCam Falcon.
The Falcon replaces the UCX and UCXp. Based on technology used in the Vexcel Eagle camera, it features a very fast frame rate and solid state storage. UltraNav will also be available for the Falcon.
However, the Eagle continues to be the flagship and some technology such as the exchangeable lens system and the modular housing will be available for the Eagle only. Another benefit of the Falcon is that it can easily be upgraded to an Eagle by refurbishment.
With respect to UC and UCXp, Vexcel has manufactured the last series and only a few cameras are still available. Its future product line-up will consist of Eagle, FalconP, Falcon and UCLp. Upgrades from previous cameras to a Falcon or Eagle is possible at any time by trade-in.
Four different configurations of the Falcon are available:
FalconP with 100mm Pan focal length and around 17,300 pixel across the flight strip.
FalconP WA with 70mm and around 17,300 pixel across the flight strip.
Falcon with 100mm Pan focal length and around 14,400 pixel across the flight strip.
Falcon WA with 70mm and around 14,400 pixel across the flight strip.
The first Falcon arrived in Graz a few weeks ago and Vexcel are currently testing the camera. Serial manufacturing is already scheduled, and the Falcon will be available for delivery to end customers from November 2012.
