The International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) has elected a new incoming president, Michalis Kalogiannakis from Greece.

Kalogiannakis has been an FIG Vice President since January 2025, having been elected to that post in May 2024.

He’s also Chair Working Group 2: Communications and New Member Attraction of the UN-Habitat Professionals Forum, a member of the Hellenic Association of Rural and Surveying Engineers and CEO and survey engineer of Topo GES.

Commenting on his election, Kalogiannakis said “I feel deeply honoured and responsible to have been elected President of the FIG – International Federation of Surveyors”.

Writing on LinkedIn, he said that his ascension is “… a clear message for change, for respect for members, for modernisation, for digital transformation, for increasing our visibility, for financial sustainability, for an inclusive FIG, and for meaningful support for the everyday professional”.

“The responsibility is great, and all I can say is that I will do everything in my power.”

A focus on FIG’s priorities

Kalogiannakis said his term will be characterised by a focus on the priorities he expressed during his campaign for the presidency:

  • Participation and inclusivity
  • Professional development and added value
  • Modernisation, advocacy and strengthening FIG’s brand
  • Restructuring of operations
  • Financial sustainability and solidarity

“Together, we have the opportunity to strengthen FIG, elevate our profession, support the next generation of surveyors, and ensure that our global community continues to thrive,” he said.

“I call on all our members and the surveying community to be active participants in this change. A change with a plan, respect for FIG’s history, and respect for the everyday surveyor.”
