Mapping solar potential

By on 10 May, 2011

A new software can calculate the solar potential of roof areas, to find the most efficient position to install solar panels.

The software, created by GTA Geoinformatik GmbH and known as tridicon SOLAR, uses a digital surface model of roof tops – generated by stereo aerial images or LiDAR data – to create a solar potential map in kWh/m2 per year.

The map shows the annual solar energy for every roof area, taking into account exposure, slope and shadowing from nearby objects, with shadowing calculated at two-minute intervals for every day of the year.

The searchable map can also be published online for use by property owners and solar suppliers alike.

GTA plans the commercial launch in Spring 2011. For more information, email contact@tridicon.de or visit www.tridicon.de.
