The program for the Young & Emerging Professionals (YEP) component of November’s Locate26 conference in Melbourne, has been released.
To be held on Tuesday, 24 November, prior to the start of the 10th Digital Earth Summit / Locate26 Conference, the YEP program will comprise a full day of learning, connection and fresh thinking for students, graduates, early career professionals, researchers and emerging industry leaders.
The program encompasses practical professional development, mentoring, emerging research, networking opportunities and the chance to connect with the next generation of geospatial leaders.
The day will begin with a workshop on how to build professional networks, which will be followed by a session on mentoring and then a roundtable discussion.
Then will begin the symposium section of the event, featuring a range of YEP speakers who will discuss the research they are conducting in a variety of fields:
- Sammy Hudson: How to allow spatial data to protect endangered species from impending renewable expansion: A Hemiaspis damelii case study
- Zhou Zhou: Identifying potential dark sky reserves in Queensland using GIS-based multi-criteria analysis
- Zhengyuan Chai: Semi-automated coastal vegetation line extraction workflow using machine learning in Western Australia
- Ahmad Emami: Mapping the missing layer: AI-assisted mapping of pedestrian networks at scale
- Moloud Damandeh: Walkable to whom? Human-centred multimodal ai for personalised walkability assessment
- Dominikus Yoeli Wilson Laia: Can we detect mangrove dieback before it becomes visible? Insights from the 2015-2016 Gulf of Carpentaria event
- Marinda Nur Auliya: Integrating Sentinel-2-derived LFMC and fractional cover indices for wildfire dynamics and recovery modelling: Insights from K’gari, Australia
The YEP program will conclude with a networking session, free access to the Locate26 Exhibition Showcase, and an official welcome reception.
The YEP program is included with all full YEP and student conference registrations. Standard registration rates are still available up until 26 October, after which the late rates will apply.
