Locate24: First look at the conference program

By on 27 February, 2024

Australian geospatial professionals have been given their first glimpse at the program for the upcoming Locate24 conference, to be held in Sydney from 7 to 9 May, 2024.

The program will comprise four plenary sessions, plus technical workshops and concurrent speaker sessions.

The opening plenary session will be chaired by Kate Lundy, Chair/President of the Geospatial Council of Australia, who will unveil the highly anticipated ‘Economic Impact of Geospatial Information’ report. She will be joined by two distinguished speakers who will present industry case studies.

The second plenary will focus on ethics and governance in the field of generative AI, with a panel of experts — featuring speakers from Service Gen, Simplyai and others — to discuss the governance of AI and how it will affect the geospatial sector.

The third plenary, titled ‘Sustainable horizons: Integrating culture, community and environment for a brighter future,’ will see Prof. Deen Sanders, Rory Brown, Dyan Currie and Dr James Johnson lead a thought-provoking discussion on a range of topics such as indigenous mapping, smart cities, economic growth and sustainable development.

The fourth plenary will bring together leaders from across Australia and Asia-Pacific gather to explore the future of geospatial ecosystems, and how current and emerging programs, technologies and trends are shaping the future, especially in enabling cross-functional and cross-sectoral integration and interoperability across the growing network of geospatial programs, producers and users.

Of course, a highlight of the conference will be the presentation of the annual Geospatial Excellence Awards, which will take place on the evening of 8 May. Tickets can be booked during the conference registration process.

Indeed, registrations are now open, with the early-bird deadline being 5:00pm AEDT on Monday, 11 March.

In addition, casual attendees will be able to explore the Locate24 exhibition showcase free-of-charge from 12:30pm until 4:30pm on Tuesday, 7 May, although registration will still be required.
