Locate20 postponed, new dates to be announced

By on 17 March, 2020

Concerns over Covid-19 have forced organisers to officially postpone Locate20, Australasia’s marque geospatial and surveying event, with the hope that a new date can be arranged later in the year.

The annual event was originally slated to take place at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in late April, however an anticipated federal ban on large events due to concern over the spread of Covid-19 forced organisers to make the difficult decision to put off the event.

Organisers hope to announce alternative arrangements soon.

Locate20 is the latest in a slew of industry events to be cancelled or postponed due to the worldwide pandemic. Other geospatial events impacted include Singapore’s innaugural GeoConnect Asia 2020, Amsterdam’s Geospatial World Forum and the International Lidar Mapping Forum originally scheduled for later this month.

“This is the first time in the conference’s history we have had to postpone an event, and we are well aware that this decision may be an inconvenience to some,” reads the announcement by Locate20 Convenor Paul Reed and Maurits van der Vlugt, Chair, Locate Conferences Australia.

“However given the exceptional circumstances, and in line with the developing government health guidelines around COVID-19, we feel postponing the event is the responsible stance to take, in ensuring a healthy and safe experience for all.”

Organisers sought to reassure those that have already registered for the event that all registrations will remain valid for the rescheduled event.

“We are thrilled with the level of response from the geospatial community across Australia and New Zealand to date, with over 300 professionals already registered to attend this highly anticipated annual event,” the statement says.

“We would like to thank all our board members, partners, sponsors, suppliers and staff for their patience while we have worked through this unprecedented and complex situation. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”
