Enrolments are now open for the 2026 S-5B Hydrographic Surveyor and S-8B Marine Geospatial courses.
Conducted by the IIC Academy, both courses are recognised by the International Board on Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers (IBSC).
The S-5B Hydrographic Surveyors Program will begin in August 2026 and will comprise 15 weeks of theoretical training followed by 7 weeks of practical work and assessment.
Students will have up to 31 weeks to complete the theoretical training via online, self-paced, instructor-supported learning.
As hydrographic surveying is a practical discipline, the 7-week practical period will bring the students and instructors together for an intensive hands-on learning and assessment period.
It is planned that the practical will be delivered in Warrnambool, Victoria, commencing May 2027, and also in Europe if student numbers allow. It will be supported by Deakin University, ARC LIEF Project, Seismic Asia Pacific, Acoustic Imaging and QPS.
The S-8B Marine Geospatial (Nautical Cartography) Program will be delivered as a 22-week global delivery, maximising online learning methods, and will commence in September 2026.
The S-8B program will provide students with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge and skills required to undertake nautical chart production.
