High-calibre speakers line up at spatial@gov

Check out the high-calibre speaker line up at spatial@gov, including Drew Clarke – secretary, Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism; Senator the Hon Kate Lundy Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister; Prof John McMillan AO, Australian Information Commissioner; and Roger Wilkins AO, secretary, Attorney-General's Department.
 
In addition to the high-profile plenary speakers, among the others will be Michael Haines, CEO of Virtual Australia New Zealand Infrastructure (VANZI) Limited.
 
With 39 years’ experience in a wide variety of management and consulting roles (including at chief executive and board level) across a range of industries, Michael is currently leading the development of Westgate Ports' formation of a Metropolitan Intermodal System (MIS) servicing greater Melbourne, with over $150 million already invested.
 
Michael recently established Virtual Australia Limited in collaboration with CRC-SI, VPAC, MAV and NICTA to lead development of a ‘True to Life Computer Model of the Physical World' as a tool to facilitate the delivery of major infrastructure projects, with the MIS project proposed as one of the first ‘test beds' for Virtual Australia.
 
Another presenter sure to enliven the conference is Sergeant Peter Branca, a Victoria Police Sergeant with almost 20 years’ policing experience. Peter helped pioneer the use of GIS within Victoria Police in the late 1990s, and has written and presented various papers on crime mapping and GIS in policing. More recently he has assisted with the development of a spatial information strategy for Victoria Police.
 
On the subject of water will speak Matt Kendall, general manager, Sustainable Water Management with the National Water Commission, based in Canberra. In this role he leads the commission's program management and scientific activities to support implementation of the National Water Initiative and is responsible for implementation of the $250 million Raising National Water Standards program and the National Groundwater Action Plan. He has 18 years’ experience in water resources and natural resource management across both the public and private sector, and prior to joining the National Water Commission was Salinity Program Manager with the Murray-Darling Basin Commission.
