Google Earth’s product manager, Dylan Lorimer, will be a keynote speaker at the 17th Annual Geospatial Solutions Conference (GITA 2012), being held from 6–8 August in Melbourne.

He will be discussing Google Cloud, Google’s online business platform used to build applications and websites, store and analyse data, and how it is enabling innovation in the field of geospatial information and technology.

“Businesses and government can both benefit from this platform by leveraging Google Cloud to create compelling maps, and serve them to users and the public through Google’s intuitive, easy-to-use applications such as Google Earth and Google Maps,” said Lorimer.

“The data is stored online and can be accessed from any device, on any platform, from anywhere on the planet.”

On Christmas Eve in 2011 Google handled over 1.6 million queries every second as families all over the world accessed Google Earth’s online ‘Santa Tracker’.

This showcases Google’s quality and reliability in strenuous data processing and delivery situations.

In the past few years Google has published petabytes of data via Google Earth and Google Maps including satellite images, aerial views, terrain maps and images from Google’s Street View.
