Getmapping Web Mapping Service

By on 13 May, 2010

Getmapping has launched a new service to stream UK Ordnance Survey maps and aerial photography over the internet. The service enables georeferenced map imagery to be used in a variety of web-based applications, and with GIS and CAD software.

The service offers the ability to transfer specific information, rather than a whole dataset, which often results in lengthy load times. It also functions as an external source for aerial photography. Users access data only as required, reducing network load and the costs associated with data storage and management.

Web mapping feeds are available for Getmapping aerial photography, Ordnance Survey maps and the People’s Map. All available map scales are layered into one WMS feed, which means that more specific data can be delivered to the user.
