FrontierSI’s PNT and Geodesy Lead, Eldar Rubinov, has been named a finalist for the Innovator of the Year award at the Australian Space Awards.
Rubinov has made major contributions to the development of Australia’s first Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) Labs, an initiative aimed at enhancing the resilience and performance of PNT technologies.
PNT Labs, launched late last year by FrontierSI, is state-of-the-art network of facilities designed to test and analyse the performance of current and emerging PNT systems, addressing critical vulnerabilities such as radio frequency interference and spoofing attacks.
By collaborating with industry and research partners, PNT Labs will provide invaluable insights for sectors such as defence, transport and critical infrastructure.
The first Lab was established at the Victorian Goldfields Railway (VGR) in Central Victoria, and will provide a “controlled and consistent real-world environment for PNT testing” by using a software-defined radio to introduce controlled radio frequency interference disruptions in order to see how different GNSS hardware and positioning algorithms handle them.
“Eldar’s work embodies FrontierSI’s purpose to solve big problems using our space and spatial expertise,” said FrontierSI’s CEO, Graeme Kernich.
“His efforts building, testing and implementing PNT solutions reflects our commitment to providing organisations with services that improve their PNT resilience. We congratulate Eldar on being recognised as a finalist.”
