DeLorme, at the recent Esri User Conference in the US, announced the release of a significant upgrade to its World Base Map product, with important improvements and changes for 2012.

“The new World Base Map release is a reflection of DeLorme’s commitment to currency and accuracy,” said John Auble, DeLorme vice president, data products and HA/DR programs. “As a data contributor to ArcGIS Online, we realise that Esri users rely on our maps for mission critical operations around the world, and we are committed to ensuring this community has the most accurate and complete pole-to-pole topographic map database.”

Major upgrades in the World Base Map 2012 edition include more roads and railroads, more rivers and streams, elevation data updated to reflect changes in ocean and inland lake shorelines, updated airport information and the latest country and administrative district boundaries.

DeLorme began publishing the World Base Map in 2010. It is a complete, seamless, global data set that includes all the world’s countries and the full extent of all continents, providing a consistent level of detail and reliable horizontal accuracy for all features worldwide. It has been built, maintained and enhanced using a uniform process. The data is also available in a raster cache format, which offers a rich cartographic look and compelling visualisation of the Earth’s topography. All data is in latitude/longitude coordinates in WGS84 datum, and saved in Esri File Geodatabase or Shapefile format.
