The Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) has announced that the Minister for Communication, The Hon. Malcolm Turnbull MP, has been confirmed as the opening key note speaker at the Locate15 Conference being held in Brisbane 10-12 March.

The Locate15 Conference is a consolidation of the SSSI Conference, Spatial@Gov, and the Geospatial Information and Technology Association (GITA) Conferences. The amalgamation of these conferences has enabled a central meeting point for the whole spatial community to discuss the direction of the industry.

“The Locate15 Conference brings together the leading surveying and spatial professional and academic organisations in Australia,” said SSSI president, John Trinder. “It enables the whole community of surveying and spatial professionals to interact and network on topics of common professional interest, as well as display to the broader community the significant achievements of [the] surveying and spatial professions.”

The Hon. Malcolm Turnbull MP will be joined by fellow keynote speakers that include: the Secretary of the Department of Communication, Drew Clarke; Ergon Energy’s CEO, Ian McLeod; as well Major General Steve Day, who will be discussing Cyber Security. There will also be a panel made up exclusively of Australia’s Surveyor Generals to discuss topical issues of the day.

SSSI CEO Roger Buckley said “The addition of the Communications Minister to the already outstanding roster of speakers will enable conference delegates a unique experience to hear first-hand the direction in which the Federal Government will be moving within spatial policy and the digital economy.”

Locate15 will be attended by a range of industry and government professionals, as well as academia, and will develop ideas for innovation and ways in which to raise awareness to one of the fastest growing industries.
