In most cars or phones we can find a GPS nowadays to help us to get where we need to be in the most efficient time. We take its accuracy for granted and make our hectic lives dependant on it. But who makes sure that this information is up to date, and what happened to the old fashioned way to show maps? Are their common rules these maps are bound by? This workshop will answer these questions. It will take you on a journey from the beginnings of cartography and paper maps (atlas) over the use within the content of the World Wide Web and the integration into systems like the in car navigation system.
The workshop will show a range of presentations:
- The history of cartography
- The benefits of standards and map fundamentals
- Example of the use of hardcopy maps (atlas) today
- How to get accurate information and how do you maintain it
- Online mapping – more than a pretty picture
- How to find your way around Sydney
Who is the event for? Who is the targeted audience?
This workshop can be as beneficial for anyone new to the GIS industry or new to cartography as for someone who is curious to learn more about the heart of applications (GPS functionality in phone or in our car) we take for granted.
