6th Digital Earth Summit @ The Beijing International Convention Center
Jul 7 – Jul 8 all-day
6th Digital Earth Summit @ The Beijing International Convention Center | Beijing | Beijing Shi | China

The 6th Digital Earth Summit, together with a celebration of the tenth anniversary of ISDE, will be held on 7-8 July 2016 in Beijing, China. With the theme of “Digital Earth in the Era of Big Data”, this Summit will offer a great opportunity for scientists, engineers, technologists, managers and other stakeholders to exchange scientific and technical knowledge and to seek research ideas and cooperation opportunities in the field of Digital Earth.

Since the concept was put forth in 1998, Digital Earth has thrived with a panoramic scenario for growth. The International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) was established in Beijing in May 2006 as an international scientific organization promoting academic exchange, scientific and technological innovation, education, and international collaboration towards the development of Digital Earth. In addition to the series of symposia on Digital Earth organized every odd year since 1999, the Digital Earth summit is our society’s other platform held biennially every even year, presenting discussions on specific fields and issues related to Digital Earth since 2006.

The 6th Digital Earth Summit, together with a celebration of the tenth anniversary of ISDE, will be held on 7-8 July 2016 at the Beijing International Convention Center, China. Organized by ISDE, the summit offers a strong opportunity to exchange knowledge, develop research cooperation, discuss important issues, and continue to improve the scientific field of Digital Earth.

Under the theme “Digital Earth in the Era of Big Data”, this 6th Digital Earth Summit aims to provide an international platform to focus on the application and technologies of Digital Earth for new developments and advances in the context of big data. The birth and growth of big data have brought opportunities and challenges to Digital Earth and moved forward its concept from “putting Earth into the computer” to a broader Big Earth Data. In this new era, Digital Earth should stitch together the huge, valuable geo-data resources increasingly available to us, and perform simulations in real-time of interactions among all Earth system processes in all spheres with respect to their physical, chemical, biological and social science elements. It should also integrate massive, multi-spatial, multi-temporal, multi-resolution, and multi-typed Earth observation and socioeconomic data as well as analysis algorithms and models, fully encompassing the properties of big data.

Georabble Sydney @ The King Street Brewhouse
Jul 7 @ 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Georabble Sydney @ The King Street Brewhouse | Sydney | New South Wales | Australia

Georabble has announced the first speakers for GeoRabble Sydney, 7 July 2016 at the King Street Brewhouse– 22 The Promenade, Darling Harbour.

The theme is “The Last 50 Meters”, or how to improve the accuracy of location using 21st century tools.

On the topic of finding your way, where traditional addressing may not be good enough we have:

• Gerry Stanley (PSMA) Capturing building outlines across 7.7 million km2 to find the last 50 metres could be regarded as challenge enough.
Capturing 3D building attributes, surface cover, tree heights, swimming pools, roof material and more for 90% of Australia’s population is a much larger challenge…
Oliver Slezak propositions Georabble that a “Front Door” is the reference point at any location. He proposes to invite all digital mappers to co-operate to map “Front Doors” as its reference point, starting with allowing volunteered input.
Brian Nicholls (AAM) will present a “fully 3D enabled GIS based property booking system”.
• Michael Krason (Mailcall) Estimating delivery times is tricky. But when you have inaccurate addresses to play with, it becomes a different game. Hear more about routing and delivery time estimation when dealing with poor addresses.

Other presenters and/or panelists are invited to pitch their thoughts/ideas on the topic. If you would like to participate in the panel, please contact sydney@georabble.org with your proposed topic.

If you just want to listen, enjoy the free food (courtesy of Pitney Bowes), please sign up using by registering here.
