SDB Day 2019

The International Forum on Satellite-Derived Bathymetry 2019

Esteemed speakers and guests from hydrographic offices, marine industry, service providers and research institutes around the world will gather for Australia’s first SDB Day in May 2019.

Satellite Derived Bathymetry (SDB) is a method for providing high-resolution water depth data in shallow water environments. These waters are notoriously difficult and expensive to access. The method combines satellite imagery with advanced algorithms to provide affordable and accurate data, and all within a relatively quick turnaround time.

The forum addresses the urgent need for both users and producers of SDB to jointly discuss capabilities, standards, data integration and handling uncertainties in its application.

The 15th International Conference on Spatial Information Theory, COSIT 2022, will be held in Kobe, Japan, 5 to 9 September, 2022. Established in 1993, the Conference on Spatial Information Theory (COSIT) is a biennial international conference series concerned with theoretical aspects of space and spatial information, aimed at advancing geographic information science and its emerging research frontiers.

The conference offers three (refereed) submission tracks with double-blind reviews: vision papers, full papers, and short papers. Embedded in the conference will also be an on-site mentoring program for doctoral students.

Contributions can cover a broad set of conference-relevant themes such as (but not limited to):

The Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) will convene the second United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress (UNWGIC) in Hyderabad, India from 10-14 October 2022.

Hosted by the Government of India through its Ministry of Science and Technology, the convening of the UNWGIC arises out of the mandate from the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to the Committee of Experts to convene global forums to promote comprehensive dialogue on global geospatial information management with all relevant governments, international organisations and stakeholders.

With an overarching theme ‘Geo-Enabling the Global Village: No one should be left behind,’ the second UNWGIC will reflect the importance of integrated geospatial information to support sustainable development and the wellbeing of society, address environmental and climate challenges, embrace digital transformation and technological development, and catalyse vibrant economies.

The congress addresses the development and strengthening of integrated geospatial information management, its capacities and capabilities, and demonstrates the importance of international cooperation and coordination for building a human data and geography community, against the three pillars of sustainable development, for a shared future and a better world, leaving no one behind within an inclusive and equitable global society.

The UNWGIC will feature a high-level, plenary, special and parallel sessions. While the actual second UNWGIC program covers three days (11 – 13 October), the overall event will be a weeklong (10 – 14 October), and will include global and regional meetings, workshops and learning events, expert meetings and side events, including the eleventh plenary meeting of the Regional Committee of United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific (UN-GGIM-AP), as well as the annual meeting of the UN-GGIM Expanded Bureau.

The Geospatial Council of Australia’s Spatial Information Day will be an immersive journey into the dynamic world of geospatial data and technology.

Delegates will have the opportunity to engage with industry leaders, renowned experts and fellow enthusiasts, while delving into the latest advancements reshaping the understanding of space and place. On the agenda will be innovative solutions driving progress across sectors such as urban planning, environment management and disaster response.

The event will be followed in the evening by the 2024 SA Geospatial Excellence Awards Dinner, the industry’s premier platform to celebrate the achievements of top geospatial organisations and individuals in the state.
