The 2022 Tasmania Surveying & Spatial Conference will be held on Friday, 2 September at Wrest Point in Hobart, and promises to be a fantastic opportunity to learn and network with SSSI members and the broader surveying and spatial community.
This year’s event will include a gala dinner, held in partnership with the University of Tasmania, to celebrate that institution’s 50 years in the field of surveying and spatial teaching.
In addition, the event will include the presentation of the 2022 Tasmanian Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards.

The FIG Congress — the largest and most prestigious conference of surveying and geospatial professionals — will this year be held in Poland.
The organisers are expecting an attendance of 1,000 to 1,500 surveying and geospatial experts from all over the world.
This year the local host is the Association of Polish Surveyors, and the conference theme is ‘Volunteering for the future – Geospatial excellence for a better living’. Geospatial excellence and all related professions and topics are now seen in a much broader context and as public goods and beneficial for the well-being and betterment of the entire society.
The sub themes are:
- Surveyor 4.0
- The surveying profession in and after COVID times
- Open access to data
- Surveying competence for other disciplines
The FIG Congress 2022 will give passionate professionals the opportunity to:
- Learn globally, with participation from around 80 to 90 countries
- Learn across silos, from other countries, industries and professional roles – with sessions and representation from a broad range of surveyors and geospatial experts
- Have influence on careers, organisations and communities
The Association of Public Authority Surveyors, NSW (APAS) annual conference for 2023 will be held at Opal Cove Resort in Coffs Harbour, from 20 to 22 March 2023.
The theme for the event will the ‘Pirates of the Cadastre’. The program is being developed, with a call for abstracts currently in place (as of June 2022).
Important dates and deadlines to note, are:
- Abstract submission deadline: Friday, 23 September 2022
- Draft paper deadline: Friday, 18 November 2022
- Final paper deadline: Friday, 20 January 2023
Throughout history, surveyors have remained the pioneers of discovery shaping our world to its current existence by exploring the unknown on earth and in space. Fast forward to 2013 when the signing of the Budapest declaration created a common worldwide celebration for those leaders, past and present.
Global Surveyors’ Day is a way to globally recognise the ground-breakers, pioneers, individuals and the industry that has shaped our history and continues to be the foundation of our communities.

The World of Drones and Robotics Congress New Zealand (WoDaRC NZ) is shaping up as an unmissable event for anyone involved in robotics, drones, AI, AgTech and data-led innovation. Planning is underway for the S+SNZ 2023 Annual Conference which will be held at Otago University in Dunedin from 30 August through to 1 September 2023.
The S+SNZ conference is the biggest continuing professional development event of the year for NZ surveying and spatial professionals. It invites sharing of knowledge amongst peers, bringing together networking opportunities for all delegates and is an essential event for professional development and connectivity within the sector.
The 2023 Tasmanian Geospatial Conference & Awards Reception will be held at the Crowne Plaza in Hobart on 1 September 2023, where delegates will hear the latest news from across the local geospatial industry, including presentations on cadastral surveying, GIS, education and more.
Immediately following the conference will be the Geospatial Excellence Awards Reception, where all attendees will have the chance to enjoy drinks and canapes whilst networking and celebrating the local winners.

The New Zealand: Digital Twin 2024 Summit will explore the roadmap of digital twin systems and their impact on each stage of a project, and explore the core values, challenges and opportunities unique to the priorities of New Zealand and how digital twins can deliver them.
The event will feature real stories of success and failure, research insights, and focus not just on what has already happened but also on the potential of digital twins and where key opportunities for timely innovation appear to be.
Delegates will hear from technical experts, industry leaders and researchers in an experience designed to support the development of a dynamic and scalable digital twin ecosystem in New Zealand.
The annual conference of Survey and Spatial New Zealand (S+SNZ) will take place in August in Napier, on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island.
Napier was the epicentre of destruction wrought by Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023, so the theme for the 2024 event is ‘Looking Ahead in the Heartland,’ which S+SNZ says, refers “not just to the optimism and resilience of provincial New Zealand, but also provides an opportunity to discuss approaches to the challenges of climate change and disaster recovery around the country”.

The 2024 Tasmanian Geospatial Conference will be a dive deep into the latest technologies, trends, and best practices shaping the geospatial sector in Australia. The event will give professionals ranging from GIS specialists to remote sensing experts the chance to gain valuable insights and forge new partnerships.
The event will conclude with the 2024 Tasmanian Geospatial Excellence Awards ceremony, which will celebrate achievements and innovations by individuals and organisations within Tasmania’s geospatial sector.
