2020 Victorian Spatial Showcase & eSummit @ Webinar
Nov 18 @ 9:00 am – Nov 19 @ 12:00 pm

We are pleased to announce that SSSI will this year be partnering with SIBA|GITA and DELWP to present the 2020 Victorian Spatial Showcase & eSummit.

This will be held as a special online event over two days in November.

Join us as we bring together government agencies, industry academics and community spatial enthusiasts to connect and learn more about the innovative spatial data, technology and services that Victoria has to offer. On the agenda is a mix of lightning talks and presentations by a diverse range of industry professionals, interactive sessions, networking opportunities and more.

The event is also aligned with World GIS Day, taking place on Wednesday 18 November. GIS Day is a day to help others learn about geography and the real-world applications of GIS that are making a difference in our society, so we hope this event is an apt way for our local GIS heroes to celebrate their day!

Spatially enabling the Sustainable Development Goals

This year, we’re going to tackle some of the world’s most complex problems – our 2020 theme is exploring how the spatial industry is enabling the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovation. But what are the SDGs you might ask? The 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all UN Member States in 2015. provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call to action by developed and developing countries across the globe.

During the eSummit, the Victorian spatial community will draw on its collective experience to identify opportunities and challenges for us all to achieve these goals.

Program

The full program for the event is now available here!
Please note this is subject to change.

The format

The event will be held from 9.00am – 12.30pm over two days on 18 – 19 November 2020, using Zoom software.  You’ll receive links to the sessions closer to the event.

43rd COSPAR Scientific Assembly @ Sydney International Convention Centre

The leadership of COSPAR and the Local Organizing Committee for COSPAR 2020 in Sydney, Australia have concluded that with the worldwide pandemic and accompanying social and economic disruption, COSPAR 2020 must be postponed.

The new dates for the 43rd COSPAR Scientific Assembly will be 28 January – 4 February 2021 and hereafter will be referred to as COSPAR 2021.

The extensive planning and preparations for COSPAR 2020 are completely transferable to the new dates, by which time we anticipate that the thirst for knowledge and personal collaboration throughout the global space research community can and will be met with an extremely successful COSPAR Scientific Assembly in Australia.

We sincerely hope that the entire COSPAR community is able to remain healthy and that the extraordinary efforts underway to contain the coronavirus and preserve economic security are successful.

In the meantime, let’s continue to work together virtually so that we ensure a Sydney summer in January 2021 will both brighten our outlook and continue our cause of promoting and facilitating international cooperation and advances in space research.

CONVERGENCE, COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY – TOWARDS A STRONGER ECONOMY

Brisbane will host the Locate Conference in 2021 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre between the 30th March and 1st of April.  Here we will share from across industry sectors how Geospatial and Location technologies and practices are being used, highlighting the fundamental role they play in the building of our digital economy. We will also explore and facilitate the convergence of the spatial industry and the influence and importance of our industry to broader, non-traditional, industries and the Australian economy. Spatial data and location services now underpin many activities driving us to explore collaborative partnerships with businesses in other sectors, working together to produce a greater whole and to recognize new ways of doing things.

Locate21 will also look at how new technology and practices are equipping us to meet the challenges our planet is faced with, how we can learn from our collective experiences and share in new collaborative partnerships that will enhance the ecosystem of the geospatial community and ensure the  value of location data to inform and enable good decision making  is recognized by the broader community.
