Dirt on Mars: once much wetter.
For all the science nerds/aficionados out there, NASA has detailed its findings of evidence of previously flowing rivers on Mars. Ah, Curiosity, is there nothing that plucky rover can’t do?
In a follow-up to the Geoservices REST API controversy, it looks like Esri may have been defeated in their attempts to lock in a vendor-created API as an ‘open standard’. More over at IT News.
The Sydney Morning Herald has an article on the use of small UAVs in combating graffiti on the German rail network. The uses for UAVs seems to grow every day.
And, in a double-slam of interesting news from the Sydney Morning Herald, they are also reporting that Apple Maps is now “sucking less” (not a real quote), and actually offers some benefits over its main competitor, Google Maps, namely in the form of data use.
And in news surely to make today known as happy mappy Tuesday, Nokia have announced 50 layoffs at the Dakota office of the company once known as NAVTEQ. Sorry guys.
Continuing that theme, Google Maps Mania has a map showing industrial accidents in France over the last thirteen years. It’s actually a good example of a heat map.
And, finally, a glimpse into a post-apocalyptic world, where you are able to view how earth would look in one thousand years from now, via the power of Google Maps and Streetview. Of course, it’s a promo for the M. Night Shyamalan’s latest film, but it’s pretty cool.
